Nice to meet you @font-face

Posted on November 1st, 2011 by keithrw

I used @font-face in a stylesheet for the first time ever last night.

I’m not really a graphic designer or huge on typography, so fonts have always scared me for some reason. I have a hard time knowing what fonts go with other fonts, and it wasn’t until about 2 years ago that I learned what serif was.

So in keeping with all of that, until now I had never touched @font-face to import fonts onto a web page. But when I signed up for the CSS Off, I had a hunch that it would be using some tasty fonts (yes, my eyes have been opened and I can now see fonts as tasty). This is exactly the reason I signed up for this thing, to stretch my knowledge and skills into the need to learn more.

So, ha! Take that procrastination… or something.

Hah, I totally feel that sentiment. I’ve still never used @font-face but I just recently started using Google Fonts. When I first learned web design, it was pounded into my head to only ever use ‘web safe’ fonts and I think it’s stuck with me through the years.

cheers.

Yeah, I’ve got a few of those “don’t ever do this” kinds of things driven into me before too. Now that I’m into reading spec on certain things, I sometimes even find where those “don’t ever do this” things are completely wrong!
Thanks for the comment!
